Our regular worship service time is every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in our sanctuary at 209 West Broadway St, Decorah, Iowa.
Parking is available along Broadway and Court Streets. Reserved accessible parking is available near both entrances to the building.
There are two entrances to the building. One entrance (upper) is on the corner of Court and Broadway atop a set of stairs. Use that entrance for access to the sanctuary and fellowship room.
The other entrance (lower) is located approximately at the midpoint on the city block, under a covered entryway. Use the lower mid-block entrance for the Congregational Center and for access to the sanctuary via elevator or interior stairs.
You will find folks wearing anything from shorts and jeans to suits. Wear what makes you comfortable and dress as who you are. After all, members of our congregation come from all walks of life.
We see children and young people as central to the life of our congregation, so by all means, they are welcome!
Children in pre-K through grade 5 (and any adults who are interested in joining their kiddos) are invited to join our engaging Children's Ministers in children's activities - wonder-filled faith formation time during the second half of worship.
Children of all ages are welcome to remain in worship with their families. Activity packets are available in a basket at the entrance to the sanctuary—with plenty of stuff to keep occupied anyone who likes to keep their hands busy!
In the sanctuary, there is a cozy, child-friendly space in the front row on the righthand side of the sanctuary (if facing the altar). There, on the rug, you’ll find space for your child to spread out and play with some age-appropriate toys. Adjacent to the sanctuary, in the Friendship Room, there are tables, couches, chairs and activities just for kids and familes to use before, during or after Sunday worship service. You are invited to use any of these spaces at any time.
Parents are welcome to nurse anywhere that works for you and your child.
You can expect a warm greeting from members of the congregation, but don’t worry! You will not be asked to stand up and introduce yourself or pointed out as someone here for the first time.
You’ll receive a printed bulletin (like a guide for the service) when you come into the sanctuary. It will have the plan for that Sunday’s worship, which will include a mixture of prayer, song, scripture readings, a reflection, and a chance for folks to share celebrations and prayer requests with the congregation. Additionally, at least once a month, Holy Communion is offered, usually on the first Sunday.
Worship usually lasts about an hour. We gather for coffee and snacks following worship. If you are able to stay, it is a good time to get to know folks a little bit.
We encourage everyone to join their voices in song when we gather for worship, but singing is definitely not mandatory, and some folks read along or listen rather than sing.
We invite visitors to fill out an optional CONNECT Card, which can be found in the pew in front of you. The information you provide allows us to send you a note in the mail or an email later in the week. If you would like to receive our weekly newsletter, you can let us know that on the Card, too.
You don’t have to give anything. The offering is a chance to give financially so that ministry can happen inside and outside of the church. If you choose to share a gift, it will be used for the ministry or outreach of the congregation.
Many members and friends choose to donate online instead of placing money in the offering plate during services.
No! All are welcome to take communion - there are no requirements you must meet. You don’t have to be a member of Decorah UCC, the United Church of Christ, or any other group to partake. Everyone, everyone, everyone is welcome!
